Tactical Problem: Locating the open space in  opponent’s court

Skill development: Anticipating opponent’s play into the open space

 


Game/Task:

Box Game with ball

 

Conditions:

  • toss must be above shoulder hieght
  • after playing the ball you must move outside of the playing area before moving back in
  • ball must bounce once inside of the playing area

Organizational Points: 

  • students are in groups of 2 or 3
  • one retrieves four cones and a ball, the other locates a playing area
  • cones and balls are set out prior to instruction and spaced apart
  • balls are contained

Teaching Points: 

Ø      locate the open space in the playing area

Ø      anticipate opponents “play” to that area


 

Modifications / Refinements / Progressions:

  • students are able to change the dimensions of the playing area
  • if it is too easy then make the playing area larger
  • too difficult - decrease the playing area

                        - allow the students to remain in the box

Find the appropriate dimensions that will challenge the students and provide success at the same time.

  • groups of three will alternate in numerical order (occasionally switch up the order)
